The Florida Department of Education recently released student test scores for the 2022-23 Florida spring test administration, and results are in for Orange County Public Schools.
According to OCPS, Orlando students showed “substantial improvements” and the school system was proud of “continuous growth throughout the year.”
Scores released included: Florida Assessment of Student Thinking (FAST) Progress Monitoring 3 (PM3) English Language Arts (ELA) for grades 3 through 10, FAST PM3 Mathematics for grades 3 through 8, Benchmarks for Excellent Student Thinking (B.E.S.T.) Algebra 1 End-of-Course (EOC), B.E.S.T. Geometry EOC, grade 5 and grade 8 Statewide Science Assessment, Next Generation Sunshine State Standards (NGSSS) Biology 1 EOC, NGSSS Civics EOC and NGSSS U.S. History EOC.
This is the first year teachers, parents and students received real-time, immediate and actionable data at the beginning, middle and end of the school year to drive student improvement in ELA and mathematics.
The results for grades 3-10 ELA FAST, 3-8 Mathematics FAST, and the B.E.S.T.-aligned Algebra 1 and Geometry statewide assessments are based on provisional achievement level cuts that align to the Florida Standards Assessment (FSA) scale. Therefore, OCPS said comparisons should not be made between the 2023 data and previous years’ data.
“We are proud of our students for their continuous growth throughout the year. We also credit their teachers, administrators and parents who maintained high expectations for students and collaborated to help them achieve success on the new tests,” Superintendent Maria Vazquez said. “We will use this data to help drive instruction and increase learning gains.”
The percentage of OCPS students scoring Level 3 or higher (% on-Grade-Level or Above) was above the state’s percentage in the following subject areas and grade levels:
- FAST ELA PM3: Grades 3 and 4
- FAST Mathematics PM3: Grades 4 and 8
- Statewide Science Assessments: Grades 5 and 8
The percentage of OCPS students scoring Level 3 or higher (% on-Grade-Level or Above) was the same as the state’s percentage in the following subject areas and grade levels:
- FAST ELA PM3: Grade 5
- FAST Mathematics PM3: Grades 3 and 5
