OCPS Issues Safety Reminder Ahead of Return from Spring Break

As Orlando students return from spring break and enter the last nine weeks, Orange County Public Schools hopes for a strong and safe end to the 2021-22 school year. To help families and the entire community keep children safe, OCPS issued a safety reminder for families and residents.

“Students will be returning to class tomorrow, March 21 and we are reminding everyone to be extra vigilant as many students will be walking, riding their bikes, or waiting at the bus stop in the dark due to Daylight Saving Time,” the OCPS safety reminder stated.

Local drivers should slow down, pay extra attention to the road, never talk on a cell phone or engage in other distractions while driving, and always obey posted speed limits and other traffic laws. Of course, in Orlando this is not always the case on the roads.

“We encourage parents to talk to their children about pedestrian safety and advise that students wear bright clothing, walk on sidewalks, watch for cars at every driveway and intersection, look ‘left-right-left’ while crossing the street, stay focused on the road and avoid distractions,” OCPS added. “We appreciate the support of our families and the entire community in keeping our children safe.”
