A deputy sheriff who falsified his time card on several occasions, was arrested on Thursday and charged with one count of scheming to defraud.

Joshua Roelofs, 25, of Auburndale, is accused of lying on his time card between September 2014 and January 2015.  According to his arrest affidavit, Roelofs would put down time he didn’t actually work. On some occasions, he was working off-duty and being paid by outside vendors during the time he indicated he was on duty at the Polk County Sheriff’s Office.

Roelofs who has been a deputy sheriff with the PCSO since November 2010, defrauded the Sheriff’s Office of over $1,000.

He was booked into the Polk County Jail and was released after posting $1,000 bond.  Roelofs has been suspended pending termination proceedings.

“The men and women of the Polk County Sheriff’s Office are held to the highest standards. Because of Roelofs’ criminal conduct, he will be held strictly accountable. That’s why we put him in jail,” said Polk County Sheriff Grady Judd.
