On Tuesday, the militant Islamic State group released an Internet video which claims to show the beheading of captured American journalist and former University of Central Florida student Steven Sotloff.
The video is very similar to the one which showed the beheading of James Foley, another American journalist, two weeks ago. In that video, ISIS threatened to murder Sotloff next if the U.S. continued to bomb ISIS targets.
Shortly after the video surfaced, U.S. Senator (D-FL) Bill Nelson issued the following statement:
“Our hearts go out to the family and friends of Steven Sotloff. Let there be no doubt, we must go after ISIS right away because the U.S. is the only one that can put together a coalition to stop this group that’s intent on barbaric cruelty.”
And former Florida Gov. Charlie Crist had this to say in a statement:
“Our thoughts and prayers are with the Sotloff family today. This brutal murder of an innocent man who sought to document suffering in the world demonstrates the type of evil we confront in this struggle. We will defeat this evil just as we have time and again throughout our history.”
