“Giving Birth!”

Baby1finalI hate science but I love biology!

Hmmm. Does that sound like an oxymoron to you?

Anyways, biology has always fascinated me especially when we discussed the human body and its life processes. While my classmates fainted or squealed as we dissected frogs and rabbits or cringed as the baby chicks pecked for dear life from their eggshell, I became more mesmerized and riveted about the “birthing” process.

Amazingly, although I detested science, while studying about the human anatomy, always “nailed” perfect scores on all of my tests and assignments because I was transfixed about the throes of bringing a baby into the world.

Decades later….

So, like most women, with all of this handy-dandy knowledge, all I was waiting for was the entrance of my “soul mate” so that we could blissfully enjoy creating this beautiful awe-inspiring experience and phenomenon together!

Unfortunately, fate brought my “sweetheart” into my life after my childbearing years had waned.

Darn!

However, don’t think from time-to-time I haven’t prayed and asked God to perform another miracle so that my “soul mate” and I could someday become a modern-day Sarah and Abraham!

Laugh out loud!

Nevertheless, symbolically, the month of April is still synonymous to me “giving birth.” As you know, it was April, 2012, when I debuted as a columnist with West Orlando News Online. Similarly to “birthing” a baby, this experience has been very emotional and surreal for me.

And, it has also been my privilege to serve!

Motherhood is a challenge and writing thought-provoking articles each week is equally challenging. Like a first-time mom coveting her private moments with her new bundle of joy, I remain on “pins and needles” and anxious as I steal away in the wee hours of the morning “birthing” articles that hopefully merits your attention and warrants the sharing of your valuable time with me.

Ultimately, pregnancy and delivery takes a toll on a woman’s body. With that in mind, it has been my priority and intention, as a good mom and hopefully as a good columnist, to use this space as a vehicle to share the “windows of my soul” so that you will escape and bypass some of the mental, physical, emotional, and psychological trauma that I endured for far too many years in my life.

Additionally, I wanted to avail my “shoulder” so that you will realize that you are not alone in your daily struggles, in your unwavering sacrifices, or in your heart-felt sorrows.

I have been there, too!

During my science class, learned that many new mothers go through a period called “baby blues.” This is a time in a woman’s life when she is characterized as being in a depressive state or someone who is experiencing extreme mood swings and irritability.

Certainly, over the course of the past two years, there may have been a reader or two who thought that I was experiencing a “melt-down” or was mimicking some of those aforementioned traits when I expounded upon subjects near and dear to my heart.

To that end, I applaud the founder and editor of West Orlando News Online for their ardent bravery in supporting my freedom of expression by courageously publishing my full body of work!

Way to go!

Consequently, as I transition towards my third anniversary, this is what I know for sure….

Inducing “birth” is not comfortable, easy, uncomplicated, or pretty. So, as I embark onward rest assured that you will continue receiving “in your face” commentary from this temperamental crotchety cuss as I fearlessly editorialized about the sane and insane!

Just like Sarah, plan on “giving birth!”
