Tourist tax collections for the month of February 2014, were $17.73 million, Orange County Comptroller Martha Haynie announced Wednesday. That’s an almost 9% higher than what the County collected in February 2013.
Tourist taxes are charged on short-term rentals, mostly hotels and motels.
“We’re glad to see that so many people are enjoying Florida’s mild winter,” said Haynie.
To date, $81.6 million in tourist tax receipts have been collected, 6.1% over the $76.8 million that was brought in one year ago.
