Polk County investigators are still trying to determine how a 12-year-old girl on her way to school, ended up dead.
Rebecca Ann Sedwick, 12, of the 100 block of Arizona Avenue in Lakeland was found lying on the ground, deceased, on Tuesday afternoon, at 315 North Eastside Drive, in Lakeland. Investigators say, the property is a former business location for a cement company.
Rebecca’s mother told investigators that her daughter left home on Arizona Avenue, around 6:45 a.m. on Monday, September 9th, on her way to a bus stop for school. But Rebecca never got onto the bus.
Investigators learned later that Rebecca left home without her school books and did not return after school. She was reported missing shortly after 7:00 p.m.
Investigators have not said how Rebecca died and whether foul play is suspected. The investigation is ongoing.
