Sisters Across the America, Inc. (SAA) was featured in The New York Times in 2012 article “Seeking to Qualify but Also to Inspire” for its support of L.P.G.A. golfer Shasta Averyhardt and aspiring Ginger Howard. Averyhardt is the fourth African American woman who has qualified for the L.P.G.A.

The mission of SAA is to provide support and mentoring for young minority women who pursue a professional career in golf. Sisters Across America, Inc. is a not-for-profit 501c3 organization.

SAA is a nationwide network of minority women that supports the players financially and emotionally. Members are informed when a player has a tournament in their area. That allows members to attend the event to lend moral support. Averyhardt says, “Without the support of Sisters Across America I would not have been able to begin my professional golf career.”

The organization holds two tournaments a year including the signature Dolls and Guys Tournament to raise money for the sponsorship of upcoming minority women golfers. The organization actively seek sponsors to help cover expenses of the golfers that they support. Covering all expenses for a player could approach $80,0000 per golfer each year. Contributions from sponsors assist SAA, Inc. in providing some of the needed support. According to SAA president, Deloris Jones, “Ever since we started supporting Shasta, we wanted to provide mentoring, financial support or whatever she needed to play on the L.P.G.A. Tour.”

Sisters Across America will be holding its annual Dolls and Guys Golf tournament on October 26, to support young minority women golfers. The tournament will be held at Orange County National Golf Center in Winter Garden, FL.
