Today, one hundred years ago, Seminole County Public Schools held its first official meeting as an independent school district. The following week, under the leadership of Superintendent D.L. Thrasher, this young district would make a plan for nine schools to open within two years.
One hundred years later, Seminole County Public Schools is home to over sixty schools and consistently ranks as one of the top performing school districts in Florida.
In honor of the 100th anniversary of the district, a documentary has been produced to highlight and commemorate the achievements and the spirit of Seminole County Public Schools. The video created by a group of students, teachers and administrators along with the assistance of the Public History Center, portrays the actual story in pictures of Seminole County Public Schools through the decades.
The documentary will be introduced at the School Board meeting on August 13, 2013 to celebrate this important milestone.
