In preparation for the 2013-14 school year, Goodwill Industries of Central Florida is asking parents and students to consider donating and shopping at the nonprofit’s retail stores. Not only do they boast a wide variety of name brand and fashionable clothing, proceeds from sales of donated items help people with barriers to employment find work.
“At Goodwill, it’s easy for young people to make a big impact in the community,” said Bill Oakley, president and CEO of Goodwill Industries of Central Florida. “Simply by cleaning out their closets, donating those items to us and shopping at our stores, they are helping to change the lives of others.”
When Goodwill sells donated items, the revenue funds job training programs and community-based services for people with disabilities, those who lack education or work experience, or who have other challenges to finding employment.
“Our job training and placement services helped more than 17,000 people – just this year. That wouldn’t have been possible without the revenue generated from the sales of donated items at our Central Florida stores,” added Oakley.
