George Zimmerman’s attorney, Mark O’Mara offered an apology and retraction on Sunday, saying he mis-interpreted a video found on Trayvon Martin’s cell phone.
Last week, at a pre-trial hearing, O’Mara had described the cell phone video as, two buddies of Martin’s beating up a homeless man. Now O’Mara says, the video is really two homeless men fighting each other over a bicycle, and the incident was videotaped by Martin and a friend.
In a statement issued Sunday, O’Mara said:
“Though it was unintentional, it is a particular concern to us because we are and have been committed to disputing misinformation in every aspect of this case, not causing it. For that, Mr. O’Mara apologizes.”
Zimmerman is charged with second degree murder in the shooting death of Martin, an unarmed black teen. Zimmerman has claimed self-defense and said, he was attacked by Martin.
Prosecutors say, Zimmerman profiled Martin, believing that he was going to commit a crime. He ended up following Martin, fatally shooting him on February 26, 2012, in Sanford, Florida.
