NFL and NBA greats came out swinging to show their support and help raise money for the 3rd Annual Darcy J. Foundation, Inc. Golf Tournament held at the Dubsdread Golf Course on Saturday, June 16, 2012. The event raised more than $10,000 for back-to-school supplies for needy children.
“This year’s event was a huge success made possible by all of the sponsors, partners and participants that graciously volunteered their time and donations to the cause.” said attorney Michael T. Gibson, whose firm sponsored the tournament. “The event produced a great turnout and is something we plan on sponsoring annually.”
Former New York Giants’ Super Bowl XLII champ and UCF football standout, Darcy Johnson, hosted the golf tournament. Special guests that attended the event included Chicago Bears’ wide receiver, Brandon Marshall; Dallas Mavericks assistant coach, Darrell Armstrong; Retired NBA players, Chuck Atkins, Anthony Bowie and Pat Burke; Retired NFL players, Sammie Smith and Willie Offord; and WWE/WWF Wrestler and actor, Tonga Fifita.
Golf Now Orlando donated prizes to “Closet to the Pin” winner, Robbie Gainer and Raffle Prize winner, Tim Johnson. This year’s tournament also featured 1st time ReMax World Long Drive finalist, Brandon Holden. Brandon’s amazing long drive entertainment raised more than $1,000, which will be donated back to the foundation by Charity Golf International.
The 1st place prize was awarded to Citrus Nursery Management; Team Johnson and Team UCF Knights took home 2nd and 3rd place prizes; Jason Martinez scored with the Longest Drive and Trey Miller was overall, Closet to the Pin.
