Orange County encourages residents to be prepared this hurricane season by taking steps to “Be Ready” and reduce their risk of damage. Orange County can help residents prepare for the upcoming storm season during the 2014 Hurricane Expo on May 31, at Barnett Park, 4603 W. Colonial Dr., from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
The free, one-day event will offer preparedness information, live demonstrations and hands-on training at the Barnett Park Gymnasium. Free preparedness items, including weather radios and first aid kits, will be distributed while supplies last.
Attendees will learn from emergency response and recovery experts from the National Weather Service and Federal Emergency Management Agency. Representatives will answer questions and provide information on how to survive and deal with floods, high wind damage and property loss.
Participants will also learn how to track storms, pack a disaster kit, administer first aid, perform compression only CPR and prepare an emergency plan for their pets.
Hurricane season begins June 1 and ends November 30, 2014.
