A driver was killed and her 4-year-old niece is in critical condition, after her vehicle was hit head-on Sunday, Florida Highway Patrol said.
The crash happened just after 9:00 a.m., on State Road 60 near Peavine Road in Osceola County.
Ivery Walker, 56, of Miami, was driving eastbound on State Road 60, with her two nieces, Armanie Pitts, 4, and Roderick Burke, 6, when her Hyundai was hit head-on by Spencer Altschuler, 19, of Plantation.
Witnesses told troopers, Altschuler, who was traveling westbound, was passing other vehicles and had traveled into the eastbound lanes.
After the head-on crash, Walker’s Hyundai struck a guard rail and caught fire. She was pronounced dead on the scene by the Medical Examiner.
Armanie was rushed to Arnold Palmer Children’s Hospital in critical condition; Roderick sustained serious injuries and was also taken to Arnold Palmer.
Altschuler was not seriously hurt.
Troopers say, the crash remains under investigation and charges are pending against Altschuler.
