On a historic night that saw Bethune- Cookman’s sophomore Kailyn Williams become the B-CU all-time leader for career blocks. The 6-5 center finished with five blocks, setting the new record at 202. She also snagged a team-high eight boards

The blocks weren’t enough for the win as the Lady Cats succumbed to the Lady Aggies 52-46 Monday night in historic Richard V. Moore gymnasium on the campus of Bethune-Cookman University.

B-CU got off to a slow start, barely scoring 20 points in the first half. At the break, NCAT led 24-13 while the Aggies shot 32.1 percent from the field during the first twenty, compared to the Wildcats 13.8.

In second half action, the 33-28 B-CU scoring advantage during the final frame was not enough to close the first half gap and the Wildcats suffered their fifth league loss.

Sophomore Kendra Copper led B-CU with 17, Jasmine Knowles was good for 11. Their combined 28 points came during the second half but it simply was not enough. The Lady Aggies are now (15-10, 8-4 MEAC) while B-CU falls to (10-14, 7-5 MEAC). The two teams are tied for fourth place. Look forward to their meeting again in the conference tournament.

In Men’s action, The Wildcats gave the Aggies the business with a 78-56 thrashing that was ugly to watch. I suppose the Cage Cats weren’t too impressed with their home record this season.

Bethune-Cookman had five players score in double figures to send the North Carolina A&T men’s basketball team to its fourth straight loss with a 78-56 triumph Saturday.

The Wildcats (9-17, 5-5 MEAC) shot 49 percent (24-for-49) from the field and were 9-for-21 from 3-point range. B-CU hit 7 of 9 from 3-point range in the first half to lead the Aggies (6-21, 3-9 MEAC) at the half.

Brandon Stewart led the Wildcats with 20 points. Brewer Quinton, who was 8-for-10 from the field, added 16 points and 10 rebounds. Mikel Trapp (12), Ricky Johnson (11), and Denzel Dulin (10) rounded out the double-figure scorers for B-CU.

Both Wildcats teams must contend with those pesky Rattlers of Florida A&M This Saturday for Senior Day. Tipoff is at 2 p.m. and 4 p.m. respectively. The house will be rocking and Ya’ll ain’t even ready. Look for me with my B-CU letterman jacket with the basketball pin (circa 2001) cause I Got NEXT!
