“Trail of Trees” Comes to the City of Orlando

WHAT:        Orlando children may find themselves singing tree songs or laughing along to tree imitations at the free presentations of “Trail of Trees.”  This special program is presented by modern-day Johnny Appleseed, Tim Womick.  For more than a decade, Tim has planted trees at schools, parks and other places, while also planting seeds of thought in the minds of those he meets through the “Trail of Trees” program.

This fast-paced and highly animated program is “performance art” that brings up to a dozen students on stage to become part of the act —perhaps in song, tree imitations and plenty of comic relief. Participants will hear about tree biology basics, learn the value of trees, why we should plant more trees and are encouraged to learn to care for the trees where they live. Jump-starting students’ imagination about the world around them and making learning more relevant to them is the program’s desired outcome.

This first-come, first-served free show will be performed on two dates, first at the Orange County Extension Auditorium on Wednesday, January 20, and then again at the Orlando Museum of Art on Friday, January 22.

Sponsored by the City of Orlando Families, Parks and Recreation Department, Florida Urban Forestry Council, Orange County 4-H and the Orlando Museum of Art; the program is open to children of all ages and their families.
