As the year 2010 marks 50 years since Zora Neale Hurston’s death, ZORA! Festival 2010 will feature a special Legacy Awards Celebration which pays tribute to contemporary trailblazers who, like Zora, have made outstanding contributions in their respective fields.

A stellar group of honorees include George Fraser, author, speaker and chairman and CEO of FraserNet, Inc; Cathy Hughes, founder of Radio One/TV One and Susan Taylor, Editor-in-Chief Emeritus of Essence Magazine and founder of the National Cares Mentoring Movement.

The Association to Preserve the Eatonville Community, Inc. (P.E.C.), the organizer and presenter of ZORA! Festival partnered with the Orlando/Orange County Convention & Visitors Bureau (CVB), a long-time supporter, to present the Legacy Awards Celebration as the culminating event of next year’s festival.

Carolyn Fennell, Legacy Awards Celebration chair and P.E.C. vice president, “We can think of no better way to honor the 50-year legacy of Zora Neale Hurston than to recognize these highly regarded individuals. This event brings focus to the character of Zora, a trailblazer, by celebrating the longtime accomplishments of those who continue her spirit of achievement.”

The Legacy Awards Celebration takes place Saturday, January 30 at 7:30pm at the Rosen College of Hospitality Management Auditorium. Tickets are $100 per person.  Proceeds benefit the Zora Neale Hurston Endowment for the Youth. For event information or to purchase tickets, visit www.zorafestival.com or call (407) 647-3131.
