Dr. Phillips Wrestling, scored a solid victory over visiting Evans last night, 57-21. Highlighted by pins by Garrett Aycock (120 lbs.), Nick Ramirez (126), Jack Carnevale (132), Robert Herrera (138), Omar Duque (152), Nigel Alexander (160), David Hellinger (182), Colby Meeks (HWT) and a major decision by Tariq Kassar (170), DP improved their dual meet record to 13-9. JV Wrestling saw Taylor Nakashima and Michael Nguyen pick up victories via pin in an abbreviated team match and Adjanie Benoit led Women’s Wrestling with a pin as well.
After the fall sports season concluded last weekend, Dr. Phillips is tied with Tampa Plant for the number one athletic program in the state for Class 8A in the FHSAA’s Floyd E. Lay All-Sports standings. DP was third in the state last year and swept the men’s, women’s and overall trophies in 2010-2011. In the FHSAA’s Academic Team Championship competition, which measures the cumulative un-weighted GPA of each team against the rest of the state, Dr. Phillips currently ranks third in the entire state in Class 8A behind Tarpon Springs East Lake and Sarasota Riverview and is the top school in the Metro Conference. Men’s Swimming and Diving and Men’s Cross Country teams are each third statewide and first in the Metro Conference. Men’s Swimming and Diving: 3rd in state – 3.451 (1st in Metro)

Men’s Golf: 5th – 3.564 (2nd)
Women’s Swimming and Diving: 6th – 3.499 (3rd)
