An Orlando mother who encouraged a fight between her teen daughter and another teen was arrested on Thursday, Orlando police say.
38-year-old Sandra I. Padilla Miranda, from Puerto Rico, admitted to investigators she was wrong for encouraging the fight, but said she was “fearful her daughter and the other girl would continue to fight in school so she wanted it settled.”
According to the Arrest Affivadit, the two Boone High School teens, ages 14 and 17 years, had gotten into an altercation at the school on January 18, and were suspended.
Padilla Miranda then called the girl and invited her to the Bellagio Apartments on south Semoran Boulevard, so she could engage in a fight with her daughter. At the apartment was gathered a large crowd to observe the fight, Padilla Miranda’s arrest affidavit states.
As the two teens fought, Padilla Miranda repeatedly encouraged her daughter to “hit harder” and to “bit her.” Detectives say, an unknown person, video taped the fight and posted it on Facebook.
The girl confirmed to detectives that she was invited by Padilla Miranda to fight her daughter and that she attempted to bite her on the face and struck her several times as they fought. The girl also told investigators that she feared for her safety.
Padilla Miranda initially told investigators that, two guys held her back and prevented her from breaking up the fight. But when confronted with the video tape, she admitted being wrong in encouraging the fight.
Padilla Miranda was arrested and charged with child abuse and contributing to the deliquency of a minor. She was booked into the Orange County Jail on a $1,000 bond.
