Deputies Close Book on Nearly 3-Year-Old Murder Case

After nearly three years, Orange County deputies arrested a man who they say shot and killed another man in March 2009.

Willie Busby - murder suspect

Willie Busby, 37, was taken into custody on Wednesday and booked into the Orange County Jail.

Investigators say, Busby shot and killed Robert Howard on Clarcona Road on March 5, 2009, after the two men got into an altercation.

Busby told investigators that Howard had shot him first and he chased after him. He said when he found Howard, he was suffering from gunshot wounds. Howard later succumbed to his wounds.

But witnesses disputed Busby’s version of events, telling investigators that it was Busby who had persued Howard. Detectives also found several discrepancies in Busby’s story.

On Wednesday, the Grand Jury indicted Willie Busby for first degree murder.

Busby was arrested at a convenience store on Lake Stanley and Silver Star Road and transported without incident. He was booked into the Orange County Jail and is awaiting his first appearance.
