Woman’s Body Found in Submerged Vehicle in Volusia County

The body of a woman was found in a vehicle submerged in a pond near Williamson Boulevard and Hand Avenue in Volusia County. Troopers say, they believe that the crash occurred on Monday night, sometime between 10:00 p.m. and 11:00 p.m.

While a positive identification is yet to be made on the body, troopers said the vehicle, a 1997 Honda, belongs to 79-year-old Rose Bruce, of Ormond Beach.

Investigators believe the driver was traveling southbound on an unfinished road next to the parking lot of Love Whole Food Cafe, when evasive action was taken to avoid a trailor parked on the road. It is believed that the driver steered to the right and the Honda left the roadway, traveled into the pond, becoming completed submerged.

Based on their investigation, troopers believe the driver attempted to get out of the vehicle, but was unable to do so.

The crash remains under investigation.
