Troopers have identified the woman who became trapped in her vehicle Monday, after it careened into a retention pond near US 192.
According to Florida Highway Patrol, 64-year-old Mary Arbour, of Laramie, Wyoming, was stopped on the east shoulder of northbound US 192, near Bill Beck Road.
A witness who thought Arbour’s Honda SUV was disabled, stopped to assist but realized she was having a medical problem.
Trooper say, the witness called 911 and that’s when the SUV left the roadway and drove into a retention pond.
Several people jumped into the water to try to get Arbour out, but she remained trapped inside the submerged vehicle.
Divers eventually extricated Arbour from the vehicle who was pronounced dead at Osceola Regional Hospital.
Troopers said, a dog that survived the ordeal was taken to Osceola Animal Control.
The crash remains under investigation.
