Residents of the Windsor Cove community will ring in the holiday season with Orlando Mayor Buddy Dyer and the Orlando Police Department.
Dyer will join with District 5 City Commissioner Daisy Lynum and local residents from the Windsor Cove Apartment community as they celebrate the holiday season at the Windsor Cove Christmas Party hosted by the Orlando Police Department this Thursday, December 15. At the event, approximately 400 gifts will be distributed by Santa Claus to the children of Windsor Cove.
The Windsor Cove Apartment community has undergone this dramatic transformation through its partnership with the City and the Orlando Police Department. Over the past three years, the neighborhood has gone from a source of violent crime, drugs and even a triple-killing in July 2008 to a community committed to a safe neighborhood.
Since 2009, the Orlando Police Department has helped to reduce overall violent crime by 50 percent, robberies by 60 percent and aggravated assaults have declined by more than 65 percent.
