Windermere Police Officer Robert German, 31, was shot and killed early on Saturday morning, Orange County deputies said.
Officer German was murdered around 4:30 a.m. in the area of Conroy Windermere and Horizon Circle.
Officer German was checking two individuals walking along the road when he called for back up. When officers arrived they found he had been shot. Although aid was rendered to Officer German on the scene, he was pronounced dead at the Orlando Regional Medical Center.
According to Local 6, two individuals, a male and female, were found dead near the shooting scene of Officer German. It is believed that the individuals committed suicide. The couple, believed to be in their late teens or early 20s, has not been identified.
Orlando Police Chief John Mina issued the following statement:
The Orlando Police Department express their deepest sympathy and condolences to the family, friends, and fellow officers of Officer Robert German, Windemere Police Department. Officer German paid the ultimate sacrifice in service to his community. We ask that the community please keep Officer German and his family in their prayers, and remember the sacrifices paid by law enforcement officers to keep them safe.
