Charged with hindering an investigation into rape allegations against a friend, Windermere’s Chief of Police, was arrested and booked into the Orange County Jail on Wednesday.
Daniel Saylor, 44, who has been Windermere’s Police Chief for over 8 years, was arrested and charged on one count of providing unlawful compensation for official behavior, a second-degree felony and one count of official misconduct, a third-degree felony, FDLE said.
FDLE said Saylor used his position as chief to derail an investigation into rape allegations against his friend Scott Frederick Bush, by offering incentives to police officers to influence them to provide untruthful testimony to FDLE, as well as destroy material evidence.
Working with Department of Children and Family Services and the Orange County Sheriff’s Office, FDLE was able to confirm the initial rape allegations of the child, a statement from FDLE said.
As a result of the investigation, Bush, 50 years, of Windermere, was also arrested and charged with rape of a person less than 12 years, a capital felony and lewd and lascivious acts upon a minor, a third-degree felony.
Both Saylor and Bush were booked into the Orange County Jail and are being held without bond.
The investigation is ongoing.
