Michael McCoy was named Windermere’s new police chief by the town manager on Thursday.
McCoy, a former chief of the Orlando Police Department and Orange County Public Safety director, replaces Daniel Saylor.
Saylor, who was arrested last month on charges of interfering with an investigation and covering up rape allegations against a friend Scott F. Bush, had served as chief of the Winderemere Police Department for eight years. Both men have pleaded not guilty.
After Saylor’s arrest on January 12, an Interim Police Chief, Orange County Sheriff’s Office Captain Ralph Groover, was named.
McCoy will take up his duties as Winderemere Police Chief, immediately.
