Anatomy of a Car Jacking

Orange County Sheriff’s Office, Commanders Report

Early this week,  two black males, one armed with a .45 caliber handgun, the other with what is believed to be a MAC 10, confronted a man driving a late model Chevrolet Yukon pick up truck near  2824 Silkwood Circle and stole the vehicle at gunpoint.  One of the suspects allegedly struck the victim with a gun during the car jacking.  The suspects fled the complex but were later observed by Orange County deputies approximately 15 minutes later near La Havre Blvd. and Silver Star Road.
Deputies continued to observe the suspect vehicle until they attempted a felony stop.  The suspect vehicle failed to stop but did not flee at a high rate of speed.  Deputies, with assistance from one of the agency’s helicopters continued to follow the suspects at speeds between 40 and 55 miles per hour and strategically place deputies at key intersections to control traffic and, if the situation warranted, deploy stop sticks.  The suspect vehicle’s front tires did hit stop sticks near the intersection of West Colonial Drive and Fairvilla.  One of the fronts tires went flat as a result of the stop stick deployment.

The suspects continued to flee and were able to drive North on Pine Hills Road.  The suspect vehicle crossed Clarcona Ocoee Road on Pine Hills until it turned into the Clarcona Key Apartments.  The driver of the vehicle bailed out of the truck and, while being watched by the helicopter crew, ran to a nearby neighborhood where he was apprehended on Isaban Court just a few minutes after the bail out.  The passenger bailed from the vehicle a few seconds later and was tracked to a building in the apartment complex.  Deputies established a tight perimeter around the complex and were led to building 5515 by witnesses and one of the agency’s K-9 units.  Deputies conducted an extensive search of the complex and the building during a heavy downpour and thunderstorm.  At one point during the search they took a suspect into custody that was later let go because the victim could not identify him.

Deputies continued to work the apartment complex but were also following up on a street name and an address.  Deputies worked the lead which led them to 5769 Grand Canyon Drive.  Hours later deputies made contact with a man inside the residence.  The victim of the carjacking was able to positively ID that man as the second gunman involved in the carjacking.
Arrested after bailing from the truck (DRIVER) – Charles Wright, black male, 12-14-87.  Also arrested was Zekari Terell Stone, black male, 1-21-92.  Charges at this time will be armed car jacking… other charges are pending while the investigation continues.
