Experts Watch Tropical Storms Danny, Ignacio

Weather Experts are keeping their eyes on Tropical Storm Danny, which formed around 10:30 a.m. Wednesday with 45 mph winds.   There is also Tropical Storm Ignacio (see below).

In the 5 p.m. advisory from the National Hurricane Center, Danny has slowed down and remains poorly organized.

Also, at 5:00  p.m. EST, the center of Tropical Storm Danny was located near latitude 25.2 north, longitude 71.2 west or about 390 miles east of Nassau and about 735 miles south-southeast of Cape Hatteras, N.C.

Danny is moving toward the west-northwest near 12 mph. A general northwestward motion with a decrease in forward speed is expected tonight and Thursday, with a turn toward the north expected on Friday.

Maximum sustained winds are near 45 mph with higher gusts. Slow strengthening is possible during the next couple of days.

Tropical storm force winds extend outward up to 175 miles from the center.

The minimum central pressure reported by an Air Force Reserve hurricane hunter aircraft is 1009 mb.

Danny is expected to cause storm total rainfall of 2 to 3 inches, with maximum amounts of 4 inches over the central and northwestern Bahamas. Storm total rainfall of 1 to 2 inches are expected over the southeastern Bahamas and the Turks and Caicos Islands.

In summary, Tropical Storm Danny at  5:00 p.m. had the following coordinates:

* Location: 25.2 N, 71.2 W
* Distance from Nassau, Bahamas: 390 miles east
* Distance from Cape Canaveral: 622 miles east-southeast
* Max Wind Speed: 45 mph
* Movement: 12 mph west-northwest
* Pressure: 1009 mb

Meanwhile, the National Hurricane Center in their Advisory at 2:00 pm, PDT, said Ignacio is moving over cooler waters and is expected to weaken.

Also, at 2:00 pm, PDT, the center of Tropical Storm Ignacio was located near latitude 22.1 North, longitude 124.5 West of about 935 miles west of the southern top of Baja California.

Ignacio is moving toward the Northwest near 12 mph and this general motion is expected to continue during the next day or two.

Maximum sustained winds are near 45 mph, with higher gusts,  Weakening is forecast during the next 24 hours and Ignacio is expected to become a Tropical Depression tonight and degenerate into a remant low on Thursday or Thursday.

Tropical storm force winds extend outward up to 260 miles mainly to the East from the center.

Estimated minimal central pressure is 1002 MB.
