Workforce Central Florida is offering job seekers free training on the latest computer applications, social media and interviewing techniques.

Anyone with access to the Internet can log on to more than 100 classes that include Excel, Access, Microsoft Office Suite, PowerPoint and PC101. After completing the self-paced classes, a certificate can be printed to show prospective employers proof of computer proficiency. Those who don’t have a computer can take the courses at any of Workforce’s six locations in Orange, Seminole, Osceola and Lake counties.

“Job seekers must bring the latest skills to impress employers,” said Vivian Godwin, WCF’s online learning coordinator. “Our classes are a great way to update knowledge and show how they’ve been improving their skills during unemployment.”

The most popular classes are PC101, an introduction to computer fundamentals, and Microsoft Word. Godwin says even the most knowledgeable people often don’t know how to create tables, format pages or change their computer’s default settings.

WCF also offers 27 Develop You classes that teach how to cope with unemployment, network, use Facebook, Twitter and Link In for job searches, write resumes, interview for jobs and overcome the challenges of being over qualified for a position. The classes are offered at WCF locations along with libraries and colleges to reach a variety of students. Inmates also take Develop You classes before their release from jail.

Optimal Resume gives applicants a step-by-step process for writing resumes and cover letters. An InterviewCoach feature allows people to tape a mock interview on their computer and watch the replay to see how they appear to employers. Four different interviewers lob common questions and the applicant can review and polish their answers to build confidence and poise.
