After weeks of anticipation and excitement, Wawa opened its fifth store in the state of Florida on Wednesday on Silver Star Road.

Attended by more than 70 people – local officials and community members – the grand opening and ribbon cutting ceremony provided an opportunity for guests to sample Wawa products and engage in a charitable hoagie building competition.

Showing great skill and precision, the Orlando Police Department team bested the Orange County Sheriff’s Office and Orange County Fire & Rescue, among others, to win the hoagie building competition.

Congressman Daniel Webster (Florida’s 8th District), Orange County Commissioner Tiffany Moore Russell (District 6), Orlando Chief of Police Paul Rooney, Wawa’s Chairman Richard Wood and Dave Krepcho, President and CEO of Second Harvest Food Bank of Florida, were all on hand for the ribbon cutting ceremony.

During yesterday’s grand opening, Wawa also handed over a check for $35,000 to Second Harvest Food Bank, underscoring the store’s commitment to helping feed the thousands of people who are poor and hungry in Central Florida.

Located at 2507 Silver Star Road near north John Young Parkway, the Wawa store employs more than 40 people, all new jobs in the area.

Wawa plans on opening its sixth store in October at 7030 South Orange Blossom Trail in Orlando.
