Walgreens Raises Over $65,000 for Junior Achievement

Walgreens-BAT

Nearly 1,500 Walgreens employees recently participated in Bowl-A-Thon, Junior Achievement of Central Florida’s (JACF) largest annual fundraiser. Volunteers bowled at 12 locations throughout Central Florida – and in Brevard, St. Johns, Highlands, Polk and Marion Counties – raising a total of more than $65,000. The money collected will impact four Florida Junior Achievement locations and makes Walgreens one of the top corporate contributors to the fundraising efforts.

“I’m an avid supporter of Junior Achievement and am pleased to see the Walgreens family follow suit,” said Marlin Hutchens, market vice president for Walgreens and JACF board member. “Bowl-A-Thon gives us the opportunity to connect outside of work while supporting a worthy cause. We look forward to participating for many years to come.”

Proceeds from Bowl-A-Thon support Junior Achievement’s curriculum of work readiness, entrepreneurship and financial literacy skills for students in local elementary, middle and high schools. In 2010, nearly 9,000 bowlers in Central Florida raised more than $870,000 to support JA programs. The event will continue to take place throughout the spring at bowling centers across Orange, Seminole, Osceola, Volusia and Lake counties.
