Democratic Florida House candidate Tom Keen said he was “honored” to have been endorsed by VoteVets, a group working to elevate the voices of Veterans on issues that affect the everyday lives of those who served, their families, and the country. VoteVets is backed by over 1.5 million Veterans, Military Family Members and their supporters. Keen is running in a crowded race based on candidate filings for Florida House District 35.
House District 35 represents large areas of Osceola County and Orange County, including Lake Nona, Lake Mary Jane, Waterford Lakes, Bithlo, and Christmas.
“I started my career, serving the people of America for twenty years, in the United States Navy and now I want to continue to serve the people of Florida,” said Keen. “I’m running to protect our health, our schools, and our environment.”
Republican Representative Fred Hawkins is running in the new district, but he did represent parts of it before. Keen already has taken on Hawkins directly in his campaign, saying “Fred Hawkins and Republicans in the Florida House voted to take 16.5 million dollars from the Orange County Public Schools.”
Keen said he has served the community in many ways, including participating in multiple veteran service organizations, councils and boards. He currently sits on the Orlando Citizens Police Review Board.
“My time in the Navy taught me the importance of public service and I hope to carry those lessons with me throughout my campaign,” Keen said. “Floridians are owed the opportunity to be healthy and safe, as well as to prosper.”
