A Volusia Sheriff’s Office sergeant was arrested out-of-state and was pulled from road patrol duties in Central Florida.
According to law enforcement, Volusia County Sgt. Steven Edgecomb was arrested for driving under the influence by the Summit County Sheriff’s Office following a traffic stop near Breckenridge, Colorado.
He was charged with DUI and weaving from a traffic lane.
Upon notification of the arrest, VSO opened an internal affairs investigation that remains open pending the outcome of the criminal case.
The sergeant’s on-duty driving privileges were revoked and he was relieved of all law enforcement duties, according to the Volusia Sheriff’s Office.
“While a member of law enforcement is entitled to the same due process rights as anyone else, we are sharing this arrest because we recognize law enforcement officers must be held to a higher standard than the general public,” VSO stated.
Sgt. Edgecomb was hired in 2006 and had no prior incidents of this nature.
