U.S. Representative Val Demings released a harsh statement in response to the Department of Justice’s decision to drop charges against former National Security Advisor Michael Flynn. When you read the statement to the end, it appears there could also be some positioning for the 2020 ticket taking place as well, with Demings’ name being tossed in the mix for Joe Biden’s potential running mate and her statement ending with a focus on the upcoming national election.
“The danger of this moment cannot be overstated,” Rep. Demings said. “America will not survive as a democracy if the president and his allies are above the law, especially if their crimes relate to efforts to cheat in an election. This is exactly what we warned of during the president’s impeachment.”
Rep. Demings served as an impeachment manager in the impeachment of President Trump. She serves on the House Judiciary Committee, Homeland Security Committee, and Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence.
“Michael Flynn lied to the FBI about contact with the Russians and pleaded guilty twice,” she added. “The president knows that Flynn is guilty, saying in 2017, ‘I had to fire General Flynn because he lied to the Vice President and the FBI.’ But truth, right and wrong don’t matter to this administration. By dismantling the prosecution of Flynn’s case, the president and the attorney general have protected one of their corrupt political allies at the cost of the rule of law in America.”
But her statement would go on to call out Senate Republicans directly for not taking action against President Donald Trump. She then looked ahead to the 2020 election.
“We have seen other nations around the world slide from democracies to autocracies,” Rep. Demings warned. “It starts when corrupt leaders put themselves and their allies above the law. Senate Republicans had a chance to stop this, and instead put party over duty and honor. Now, only the American people have the power to hinder the decline of our democracy.”
Of all people to be talking about lying. Ridiculous the lying democratic party. I’m independent that’s voting conservative.
