The proposed state House of Representatives budget would cut $57 million in funding to the University of Central Florida and result in the layoff of ‘hundreds’ of workers.
“If this passes, we will have had more than $100 million removed from our state budget during the past two years, compelling us to fundamentally change how we manage the financial crisis,” said Hitt in the letter.
UCF cut its budget by $11.4 million in July and the university lost $40 million in state funding in the year prior to those cuts. Those previous cuts eliminated funding for 73 faculty and 24 other staff positions. Another 68 faculty and 141 staff positions remained unfilled at the time.
