U.S. Civil Right Commission: Amnesty will Hurt Black Community

jobsfinal

Citing data from various studies, three members of the U.S. Commission on Civil Rights have written to Congressional Black Caucus Chairwoman Rep. Marcia Fudge (D-OH), expressing their concerns over granting legal status or amnesty to illegal immigrants which they say, will affect lower-skilled African-Americans disproportionately, breitbart.com reports.

In their letter the trio state that, amnesty to illegal immigrants will make “it more difficult for them [lower-skilled African-Americans] to obtain employment and depressing their wages when they do obtain employment. The increased employment difficulties will likely have negative consequences that extend far beyond economics.”

The letter raises the issue as to whether there are sufficient jobs in the low-skilled labor market for African-Americans and illegal immigrants. “The answer is no,” the letter states.

According to the authors, not only do illegal immigrants compete for jobs with African-Americans, but competition drives down wages for the jobs available.

“Granting amnesty to illegal immigrants will only further harm African-American workers,” the letter continues.

The letter concludes by proposing that before legal status is granted to illegal immigrants, “due deliberation should be given to what such grant will have on the employment and earnings prospects of low-skill Americans generally and black Americans specifically.”
