A 7-year-old child was killed by a hit-and-run driver on Silver Star Road on Wednesday night, Florida Highway Patrol said.
It happened near Orlando West Drive around 10:15 p.m.
Troopers said, the child, who is autistic, was running from a nearby apartment complex toward Silver Star Road and traveled into the eastbound lanes, then into the westbound lanes.
An unknown driver and vehicle going westbound struck the child and fled the scene. Two other vehicles, one driven by 43-year-old Renee Lewis and another by 25-year-old Equanda Gandy, traveling westbound ran over the child. Lewis was driving a 1994 Honda and Gandy was driving a 1998 Saturn.
The child was transported to the Arnold Palmer Children’s Hospital where he was pronounced dead. The name of the child has not been released.
Troopers do not have a description of the vehicle of the hit-and-run driver.
This crash remains under investigation and charges are pending, troopers said.
