Three Days Back-to-School Sales Tax Holiday

The three-day Back-to-School Sales Tax Holiday kicked off at 12:01 am on Friday morning and Florida shoppers will have up to until mid-night on Sunday to purchase
a host of items not subject to the customary 6 percent sales tax.

Gov. Charlie Crist, who signed the back-to-school holiday bill in Orlando last May said then that, “Our children deserve to have the resources and materials they need to be successful and competitive in the classroom.”

During the sales tax holiday, from August 13-15, Floridians will not pay sales tax on books, clothing and footwear that cost $50 or less, as well as school supplies that cost $10 or less.

The tax holiday is projected to save Florida families $26 million.

Florida began implementing a back to school tax holidays in 1998, with durations for one week to 10 days.   This is the first three-day back-to-school tax holiday period.
