The Halifax Art Festival promises a fun-filled family weekend in historic Riverfront Park, downtown Beach Street in Daytona Beach. Celebrating its 48th anniversary, the Halifax Art Festival is the second oldest annual fine arts festival in Florida.

Over 200 juried artists will display original two–dimensional art, photography, sculpture, jewelry, textiles, ceramics, wood, metal and glass pieces for sale.

This 48th year will bring a variety of activities for vistors to the festvial.  From art lectures to dog parades, this year’s Halifax Art Festival has something for everyone.

On Saturday, November 6th at 2:00pm, Jay Williams, Gary R. Libby Curator of Art at the Museum of Arts and Sciences, will do a presentation entitled Some Art Old, Some Art New, Some Art Borrowed.  This lecture will take place in the auditorium of the Volusia County Library.

During the weekend there will also be a student art display and competition located in the H&R Block building.  The exhibit features Volusia county public and private school students from all grades.  Student art will be displayed all day Saturday and Sunday and awards will be given at 2:00pm on Sunday at the Halifax Historical Museum.

The 2010 Kohl’s Kidz Art Zone will be located near the Magnolia Avenue Bridge.  Activities this year include a chalk art sidewalk contest for kids and adults on Saturday at 12:00 p.m., a LEGO building contest for kids and adults and sand and spin art.  There will also be a Spano’s Motors paint-a-car area and gemstone mining.  New this year is the Little Van Gogh area with studio painting and crafts as well as a child-friendly movie about the life of the famous artist.

Sophie’s Art and Bark Festival will feature a Humane Society adoption area all weekend, a Dancing Dog Show at 11:00am on Saturday, and a Doggie Fashion Show at 2:00pm on Saturday.  Additionally, miniature ponies will be available for petting and pictures for the duration of the festival.  This year, Sophie’s Circle will be located near the News-Journal Center.

The great state of Vermont will be making an appearance at the festival in the form of an old-fashioned Vermont Country Store with a special section devoted to ‘Country Christmas’.  Available in the store will be baked goods, antiques, collectibles, jams, honey and other unique home and garden items.

International street cuisine and good old-fashioned festival food will be featured for hungry festival attendees and most of the downtown restaurants will feature specials. There will also be live entertainment with musicians playing a variety of popular music.  The musicians for this year include Acousticon and the Kopy Kats.
