Teen with Assault Rifle Opens Fire on Police Officers

A teenager who exchanged gunfire with two St. Cloud police officers, then turned his AK-47 rifle and shot himself in the head, is now in the ICU at the Orlando Regional Medical Center.

David Alyn Penney, 18 years, shot at Officers Clinton Wise and Spencer Endsley, as they attempted to apprehend him early on Monday morning in the area of 619 Alabama Avenue.  Several residents had called 911, just before 2:00 a.m. to say, a white male was walking southbound on Alabama Avenue, shooting multiple rounds from an assault rifle.

As Officers Wise and Endsley got to the location, immediately the gunman, later identified as Penney, fired upon their patrol car, hitting it multiple times.

Gunfire was exchanged with Penney as Officers Wise and Endsley exited the patrol car.  Police said, Penney then turned the assault rifle, an AK-47 and shot himself in the head.

Wise was shot in the right foot and Endsley sustained injuries to his face, eyes and arms from shattered glass. Officer Wise was treated at ORMC and discharged, while OFc. Endsley was treated at St. Cloud Hospital.

Investigators said, Penney had two AK-47 assault rifles in his possession.  He remains in critical condition at ORMC.

The Florida Department of Law Enforcement is conducting an investigation into the officers-involved shooting.
