A teenager, who posed as a physician’s assistant, performing physical examinations on two patients, has been found guilty on four counts and could face up to 25 years in prison.
18-year-old Matthew Scheidt cried as the verdict was read Thursday afternoon, according to news reports.
Scheidt was found guilty by a jury of two counts of impersonation and two counts of practicing medicine without a license. He was arrested last September after he was caught posing as a physician’s assistant for two weeks at the Osceola Medical Center. Scheidt, then 17-year-old, was able to obtain hospital credentials as a physician’s assistant where he interviewed patients and looked at confidential records. He even performed physical examinations on patients and worked in the emergency room of the hospital for a week, law enforcement officers said.
Scheidt will be sentenced on November 14.
Shortly after posing as a physician’s assistant, Scheidt was again arrested in Miami for impersonating a police officer. He was charged with carrying a concealed firearm and a concealed weapon. Those charged remain outstanding.
