Two Tampa heroes who saved a senior from falling from a roof were honored on the United States Senate Floor.
Florida Senator Ashley Moody presented the two Florida law enforcement heroes who saved a senior’s life with a Florida Finest Award earlier this year.
During remarks on the Senate Floor, Senator Moody honored Tampa Police Department officers Jason Sikoski and Kaleb Girard for their lifesaving efforts, in which they saved an 86-year-old man from falling 30 feet off his roof.
Officers Sikoski and Girard also receive a certificate of recognition and a copy of the Congressional Record.
Here are excerpts from Florida Senator Ashley Moody’s floor speech about Officers Sikoski and Girard:
“Last month, Tampa Police Department officers Jason Sikoski and Kaleb Girard saved an 86-year-old man who was found dangling off his roof…
“This senior had gotten on his roof to clear foliage, lost his balance…was already dangling and was almost falling off the roof…
“You can imagine the quick response from Tampa Police officers Sikoski and Girard, as well as Tampa Fire Rescue… they acted timely without hesitation and they were able to save this Florida man from falling. It was obvious from the situation…that had they not shown up…that Floridian would have fallen 30 feet to the ground and no doubt this story would have ended with a very tragic conclusion…
“And I’m proud to recognize Officers Sikoski and Girard today on the Senate Floor… with our Florida’s Finest Award…
“It’s been important to me to recognize the extraordinary work of law enforcement officers to protect Floridians. Florida’s Finest Award honors Floridians and law enforcement officers who demonstrate selfless courage and go above and beyond to save lives. I’m thankful for these Tampa Police Officers for saving this man’s life, and for all they do every day to keep the Tampa area safe. Congratulations to Officers Sikoski and Girard for helping us make Florida Stronger and Safer…
“I’ll end by saying that each and every one of our law enforcement officers are essential to upholding the rule of law…without them showing up every day, faithfully executing their duties without impediment…certainly government…could not function as it is intended to. So, I will continue standing up for law enforcement officers, because we know they are essential…for a stronger and safer America.”
As Florida’s Attorney General, Republican Senator Ashley Moody highlighted heroic law enforcement actions through her Back the Blue Award. During her tenure as Attorney General, Senator Moody gave out more than 50 Back the Blue Awards. The “Florida’s Finest” Award continues the tradition of highlighting extraordinary Floridians who take heroic actions within their communities.
