In Florida’s 450-page budget, $74.5 billion is shelled out to pay for 114,480.5 positions, but details about what the money actually pays for is curiously omitted.

Responding to a query from Tampa Bay Times as to what lawmakers might have reviewed prior to approving these projects, Katie Betta, spokeswoman for Senate President Don Gaetz, replied: “There isn’t simply a central stock pile of information in the appropriations office. In many instances, an extensive search that diverts the time and resources of staff from other responsibilities will reveal no additional records exist.”

Added Kurt Wenner, vice president of tax research for Florida Tax Watch: “It’s really hard to get a handle on what these projects are [as] a lot of time even the agencies don’t know.”
