Today, Florida Surgeon General John Armstrong, MD, will recognize UF Health Cancer Center-Orlando Health as a state-designated Cancer Center of Excellence. The cancer center is the only one in Central Florida and one of four cancer centers in the state to receive this prestigious distinction.

As a recipient of this recognition, the cancer center has demonstrated a commitment to providing coordinated care for cancer patients.

The Cancer Center of Excellence Award Program was established in 2013 to recognize cancer centers that are providing exceptional care to patients, to retain the best cancer doctors in the state and recognize Florida hospitals nationally as a preferred destination for cancer care.

Cancer is the leading cause of death in Florida and our state has the second-largest cancer burden in America. Each year UF Health Cancer Center – Orlando Health sees more than 5,500 new cancer patients.

Dr. Armstrong will hold a press conference at 2:00 p.m. today, at UF Health Cancer Center – Orlando Health, 1400 S. Orange Avenue.
