West Orange Trail Elementary School Safety – with summer camps starting, West Orange Trail staff member Janine Campbell, has put together and offers elementary schools safety presentations. Helmet fittings are also included.
Safety presentations cover how to safely ride a bicycle, describe the role of the Recreation Leader Bicycle Patrol at the West Orange Trail and how important it is to follow the rules of the road whether bicycling, skateboarding, running or walking. Emphasis is placed on safety and why wearing a helmet is so important when riding a bicycle. Staff will bring along one of the bikes that is used for patrol and will demonstrate how to check a bike for safety before riding. They will also bring their helmets to demonstrate how to properly fit a helmet. Presentations include questions to the students/camp participants so that it is interactive. A “safety word find,” “find the 12 hazards,” flier and West Orange Trail coloring sheets will be handed out at the end of the presentation.
Presentations are given to groups of 5 to 50 and can be planned to run anywhere from 30 minutes to an hour, Mondays, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday, excluding Wednesdays, from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. The West Orange Trail recreation facility is located at Chapin Station, 501 Crown Point Cross RD, Winter Garden, 34787.
