State V. Zimmerman Case to Start On Time

On Tuesday, a judge denied a request by defense attorneys to postpone the start of the trial in the state versus George Zimmerman, the man accused of shooting dead Trayvon Martin, in February 2012.

Mark O’Mara, one of Zimmerman’s defense attorneys argued before Judge Debra Nelson that there is still “an enormous amount of information” they are not getting from the state as it relates to discovery, before the trial begins. He also said, he fears that more information will come up during the trial for which they are not prepared.

But a well-prepared Nelson denied the defense’s request for a six-week continuance noting that the court had provided a lot of hearing time to both sides. Nelson listed the several prior court dates when various motions were argued from October 2012, up to the present time.

“I think that’s enough time,” Nelson said.”The motion to continue is denied.”

Nelson did however, establish two upcoming court dates before the start of the trial on June 10.

On May 31, 2013, the matter of photographing jurors will be discussed; on June 6th or 7th, a defense motion for sanctions against the prosecution for withholding information will be continued.
