Nearly three decades after he first confessed to raping and murdering six women in Indian River County, David Alan Gore was put to death Thursday by lethal injection at Florida State prison near Starke.

Gore was pronounced dead by prison officials at 6:19 p.m. after being administered a lethal combination of chemicals.

Gore, 58, was executed for the 1983 kidnapping and murder of his final victim, Lynn Elliott.

Gore shot Elliott, 17, as she tried to escape from his parents’ home, where she and a 14-year-old victim were being held, court documents said. The younger victim was rescued after Gore turned himself into police who were alerted by a boy who witnessed the shooting. While he was facing charges for that murder, he confessed to five more going back to 1981.

Gore was the 73rd inmate to be put to death since Florida resumed executions in the 1979.
