Judge Sonia Sotomayor, President’s Obama’s nominee to sit on the U.S. Supreme Court, moved closer today to getting there.
In a 13-6 vote, which broke down along partisan lines, the Senate Judiciary Committee backed the nomination of Sotomayor.
Senator Lindsay Graham, was the only Republican on the Committee to side with the Democrats in support of Sotomayor. The Democrats on the Committee voted unanimously for the Latina.
Sotomayor’s nomination will now go to the full Senate where the Democrats have a 60-vote majority and her confirmation is all but assured.
Sonia Sotomayor will be the first Hispanic justice on Supreme Court, if confirmed.
