Senator Gary Siplin (D-Orlando) will host his Annual School Supply Giveaway on Saturday, August 13, 2011 at Jones High School.
Over 3,000 students have registered to receive school supplies from Sen. Siplin’s giveaway, which is in its 11th year.
Siplin believes that “not only does this help the students get off to a good start each school year, but it also provides financial relief for their parents.”
In addition to school supplies, free undergarments and socks will be given to all elementary and middle school students, and health screenings will be provided by Children’s Medical Services at this year’s giveaway. The Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles will also be on site to provide State Identification Cards for youth at a cost of $25.
Siplin is partnering with local pastor, Derrick McRae, of The Experience Christian Center this year to provide belts for all high school students in support of the new school dress code laws that resulted from Sen. Siplin’s “Pull Your Pants Up” legislation.
