Sierra Club Florida made its endorsement for Senate in the race between Democrat Debbie Mucarsel-Powell and Republican Senator Rick Scott.
The Sierra Club Florida Chapter announced its endorsement full support of Democratic candidate Debbie Mucarsel-Powell for her U.S. Senate race to defeat incumbent Republican Senator Rick Scott.
“Throughout her time in public service, Debbie Mucarsel-Powell has been a champion for environmental priorities in Florida,” Sierra Club Florida Political Committee Chair Kristine Cunningham said. “She is a proven leader in the fight for climate justice, clean water programs, infrastructure and local environmental concerns. She prioritizes the state’s environmental challenges for a better and brighter future.”
Sierra Club attempted to add urgency to the race, saying “this election will decide the future that we want for our country, and Florida deserves a Senator who is focused on the people and the issues that impact their lives every single day.”
“As our Senator, Debbie Mucarsel-Powell will always fight for us, and we are proud to endorse her for the U.S. Senate,” Sierra Club Florida stated in the endorsement for Senate.
The environmental organization cited examples from banning the use of “climate change,” to trying to sell off our state parks during his tenure as Governor, as reasons to endorse the Democrat. Sierra Club said “Rick Scott has continued to be an enemy of not just our environment, but the people of Florida.”
The Sierra Club is the oldest and largest environmental advocacy organization in the nation. The Florida Chapter of the Sierra Club boasts over 240,000 members and supporters committed to exploring, enjoying, and protecting the wild places of the earth.
